Lions Roll Past Santa Clara, 6-1, Behind Dominant Singles Surge

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The LMU women's tennis team put together a strong and composed performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Santa Clara, 6-1, at the Degheri Tennis Center.

The Lions secured the early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Anastasia Bozova and Ada Piestrzynska earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position, followed by Helene Schnack and Kim-Michaela Zahraj who clinched the point with a 7-5 win on court two.

In singles, LMU built its lead in true chronological fashion, starting from the bottom of the lineup. Helene Schnack was first off the court with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, quickly followed by Camilia Samel-Druz who rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 to give the Lions a 3-0 advantage.

Kim-Michaela Zahraj then extended the lead to 4-0 with a strong 6-2, 7-6 (4) win at No. 3 singles, officially clinching the match for LMU. Anastasia Bozova continued the momentum with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at the No. 4 position, pushing the score to 5-0.

At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gonzalez battled in a tightly contested match that came down to a third-set tiebreak, where she narrowly fell to give Santa Clara its lone point of the day.

Closing out the afternoon, Ada Piestrzynska capped the match with a gritty three-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 7-5 in the final set to secure LMU's sixth point.

With the win, the Lions showcased their depth and control, particularly on the lower courts, continuing to build momentum in West Coast Conference play.
