PORTLAND, Ore. - Loyola Marymount capped off its opening weekend of West Coast Conference action with a 3-0 shutout win in the Rose City. The Lions (7-2-3, 2-0-0) stay atop the WCC standings with two wins in conference, and become the first team to defeat University of Portland (6-4-3, 0-1-1) on Merlo Field this season.

"We thought that we played really well in that first half," said Head Coach Michelle Myers. "We kind of felt that when Pilar blasted that one, we knew things were coming our way. We had good possession throughout and really limited their attack in that opening half."

Pilar Torres opened the scoring in the 11th minute. The junior received a touch-pass outside the 18-yard box from Sarina Bolden and took no time to drill a shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

In a repeat of Friday's performance, Bolden followed her opening assist with a goal of her own. The team-leader scored her fifth goal of the year with her finish from inside the box. Maddie Medved picked up the assist on Bolden's 31st minute goal.

Much like her teammate, Medved followed her assist with a goal as well. In the 69th minute, Portland fouled LMU in the box. The center referee was quick to blow his whistle and award a penalty kick to the Lions. Medved calmly stepped up to the spot and placed the ball in the opposite direction of the Pilot GK for the goal.

Charlee Pruitt recorded three saves en route to her second individual shutout of the season.

LMU outshot Portland, 12-10, but did not take a single corner kick until the 88th minute of play. The Pilots earned three corners on the day.

Prior to Sunday, LMU had never defeated Portland at Merlo Field in program history. The win was the first for the Lions at Portland in 11 games.

"I thought it was good for us to get away and take care of business," said Myers. "We play a team on Thursday night at home that is supposed to beat us on paper, but that's what makes it exciting. We have nothing to lose."

Following the successful opening weekend, the Lions return to Sullivan Field to host the third-ranked BYU Cougars on Thursday night. The conference home opener will kickoff at 8 p.m. and be televised nationally on ESPNU.
