LOS ANGELES - Six new faces have joined the LMU women's basketball roster beginning in 2015-16 and the LMU Sports Network, along with host and senior guard Deanna Johnson, is giving fans an inside look at new players.
Episode five features freshman guard Marcella Hughes, who marks the second Carondelet High School grad on the Lion squad (also sophomore Makenzie Cast). Hughes will also reunite with her older brother Hunter, who is a team manager for the Lions.
During her final prep season, Hughes helped lead Carondelet to a perfect 14-0 East Bay Athletic League record and 26-4 overall mark. The Cougars finished as the runner-up in the North Coast Section Division II title game and advanced to the second round of the CIF State Division II Championships.
A team captain for her final prep season, Hughes averaged 13.2 points, 5.0 steals, 4.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game. She was named MVP at the Davis High School Dorothy Speck Memorial Tournament and West Coast Jamboree (Diamond Division) while also earning EBAL MVP and All-East Bay Second Team honors. Most recently, Hughes was named to the 20-member Cal-Hi Sports All-State Girls Basketball Division II Team.
