Aug. 1, 2015 A quartet of LMU baseball players are currently competing in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer, with catcher Cassidy Brown being named the starting catcher for the East All-Stars after getting off to a solid start for the Brewster Whitecaps.
Joining Brown in Brewster this summer is RHP J.D. Busfield. Outfielder Austin Miller and two-way Freshman All-American Sean Watkins are spending their summers playing for the Orleans Firebirds.
Brown has batted .273 with 11 runs scored, four doubles, three homers and 12 RBI so far this summer in 32 games played. The right-handed hitting catcher has also drawn seven walks and stolen one base.
Miller is hitting .222 over 33 games so far for Orleans, collecting 16 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and eight RBI. The native of Greeley, Colo. has also stolen four bases.
On the mound, Watkins is 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA over 14 appearances and one start. He has logged 18 innings and has struck out 15. Busfield, who served as LMU's closer last year, has been starting games this summer for Brewster, registering a 1-4 record and a 4.37 ERA over seven starts and 35 innings. The right-hander has struck out 26 while walking just eight.
