Preparing to play in the WCC Championship Tournament for the second straight year later this week, LMU baseball learned that seven Lion players have been named to an All-WCC team. Sophomore David Fletcher earned a spot on the first team for the second straight year, while six other players found a spot on either the second team or honorable mention squad.

San Diego junior shortstop Kyle Holder captured West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, junior righthander David Hill earned conference Pitcher of the Year accolades, while first-year star infielder Bryson Brigman collected the Freshman of the Year award for the Toreors. Junior catcher Joey Harris of Gonzaga captured Defensive Player of the Year honors to break up the Torero sweep. San Diego's Rich Hill was selected as Coach of the Year by his peers. All five individual awards - along with the All-West Coast Conference First, Second and Freshman Teams - were voted on solely by the league's 10 head coaches.

Fletcher has batted .300 with 29 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples and two homers to the tune of 27 RBI so far this year. The native of Cypress, Calif. has also drawn 23 walks and stolen 13 bases in 16 attempts. In WCC play alone, Fletcher batted .310 with 14 runs scored, nine doubles, a triple and a homer with 12 RBI and six stolen bases. The 2014 WCC Defensive Player of the Year also continues to dazzle defensively at shortstop, fielding .978 in conference play.

David Edwards, Austin Miller and Colin Welmon found themselves on the second team. Edwards, who managed 10 doubles and four homers while hitting .327 in WCC play, earns his second All-WCC selection (honorable mention in 2013).

Miller garnered first team All-WCC honors as part of a WCC Freshman of the Year campaign in 2014. This year, the native of Greeley, Colo. hit a team-high .333 in WCC play, teaming that mark with 19 runs scored, five doubles, two homers and a team-best 14 RBI against WCC foes. Six of his 15 total stolen bases came in WCC play.

Welmon, a first team selection the last two years, has gone 5-6 with a 2.90 ERA overall in his senior year serving as LMU's Friday starter. The Tustin, Calif. native, who sits fourth on LMU's all-time wins list with 27, enters his next start with the third-best ERA in LMU history (2.87). He is also averaging 2.06 walks per nine innings, good for third all-time at LMU.

J.D. Busfield, Trevor Megill and Sean Watkins round out the All-WCC selections for the Lions, earning spots on the honorable mention team. Watkins also claimed a spot on the All-Freshman team.

Busfield has had an outstanding season serving as LMU's closer, registering a single-season LMU record for saves with 14. He has pitched to a 4-2 record and a 1.75 ERA overall this year, including registering six of his 14 saves and all four of his wins in WCC play.

Megill, a 2012 honorable mention selection, turned in a 3-2 record and a 2.98 ERA over seven starts and nine appearances in WCC play this year. The right-hander has posted 50 strikeouts over his 45.1 innings of work against WCC teams.

Watkins has made an immediate impact in his first year as a Lion, serving as a two-way player and taking the ball on Sundays in WCC play. Watkins has belted five homers overall this year, but has really contributed in big ways on the mound. The right-hander has amassed a 4-0 record with a 1.70 ERA over eight starts and 16 appearances (53 innings). He owns a 3-0 mark with a 2.08 ERA in WCC play, tossing 43.1 innings and striking out 31. His 1.70 ERA is the second-best season mark among pitchers with 50 innings in LMU history, while his .201 opponent batting average also ranks second.

LMU will open the WCC Championship Tournament on Thursday against top-seed San Diego at 3 p.m.
