THIS WEEK
LMU (28-20-1, 13-11) will look to earn a spot in the WCC Championship this weekend when it travels to San Francisco (23-28, 15-9 WCC) for a crucial three-game WCC series that will end the regular season...Friday's first game is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by Saturday and Sunday's games at 1 p.m...live stats, audio and video links can be found at LMULions.com...

LION TRACKS
Senior Chris Barnett picked a great time to collect his first career home run, breaking a 1-1 game with a grand slam in the top of the eighth to hand LMU a 5-1 victory over #22 UC Irvine on Tuesday at UCI's Anteater Ballpark...the grand slam was Barnett's lone hit of the game, and was the second grand slam of the year for LMU (Jimmy Jack - 2/15 vs. San Jose State)...tied at one in the eighth, LMU received a leadoff single from Tanner Donnels...David Edwards followed with a sacrifice bunt, and reached on the play when Cole Kreuter was unable to reel in the throw to first...after a sacrifice bunt and a walk loaded the bases, Barnett belted a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left field for the grand slam...LMU trailed 1-0 all the way to the seventh inning after starter Kevin Glomb hit one and walked three, including one with the bases loaded, over a third of an inning...Tyler Cohen entered with one out and the bases loaded in the first, inducing an inning-ending double play to limit the damage and escape the jam...the LMU bullpen threw 8.2 scoreless innings of relief, including 3.2 from Cohen, three from Tylor Megill, one from Cory Abbott, and a scoreless ninth from J.D. Busfield...the quartet surrendered just four hits and one walk over the span. Megill was credited with the victory, improving to 6-3 on the season...Austin Miller went 2-for-3 out of the leadoff spot, while Donnels finished 2-for-4...

NEED A SWEEP OR HELP
LMU currently has 11 WCC losses, putting them in fifth place and half a game out of the top four which qualify for the WCC Baseball Championship from May 21-23...with a sweep of San Francisco this weekend, LMU will guarantee a spot in the top four as it would hand the Dons 12 losses...if LMU can only manage two victories, it would need BYU to lose at least two games at the hands of Santa Clara (BYU holds the tiebreaker over LMU) or Pepperdine to suffer a sweep at the hands of Gonzaga (LMU holds the tiebreaker over Pepperdine and Gonzaga)...if BYU wins one game, LMU would also need the Cougars to lose a makeup game next week at Saint Mary's...one or fewer victories would not put LMU in a position to qualify...San Diego is the only team to have clinched a spot in the top four, winning the WCC regular-season championship last weekend and locking up the #1 seed...

ONE OF THE BEST
Sophomore shortstop David Fletcher was named to the 2015 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Watch List, it was announced on April 23...the award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock...Fletcher, a Freshman All-American a year ago, is hitting .304 with 27 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples and two homers for the Lions this season...hitting in the heart of the LMU order for the majority of the year, Fletcher has driven in 27 runs, has drawn 23 walks and has stolen 12 bases...he has struck out just 16 times in 190 at bats...defensively, Fletcher continues to prove himself as one of the top defensive shortstops in the nation, dazzling spectators and opponents alike with spectacular plays nearly every game...the native of Cypress, Calif., and the 2014 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, is fielding .971 this season...several conferences have multiple players on the list, led by the SEC and Pac-12, each with five...the West Coast Conference has four players on the list, including Fletcher, Logan Steinberg (Saint Mary's), Kyle Holder (San Diego), and Jose Vizcaino, Jr. (Santa Clara)...

WALK IT OFF!
The LMU baseball program has recorded four walk-off victories this year, most recently leaving Pacific on the field in the bottom of the ninth on 4/18...Kyle Dozier was the hero against the Tigers, delivering a two-out RBI-single into centerfield to bring home Ted Boeke and hand LMU a 5-4 victory...Ryan Erickson won the game against UNLV on 4/14, delivering a walk-off squeeze bunt with the bases loaded and one out to bring home Tanner Donnels...sophomore David Fletcher laced a two-out RBI-triple into the right field corner off of Santa Clara reliever Reece Karalus to score Austin Miller and hand LMU a 6-5 walk-off victory in 10 innings on 3/14...LMU also hobbled off with an unconventional 6-5 victory on 3/27 against Gonzaga, as freshman Billy Wilson drew a one-out bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the game...the Lions managed two walk-off victories during the 2014 season...

POWER SURGE
The LMU baseball program has slugged 27 home runs through 49 games this year, including 23 in the last 36 overall...the number may not stand out in the crowd amongst national leaders, but it is a drastic shift in direction for the LMU program itself, and is second in the WCC...the Lions hit just 10 home runs in 56 games played last year after becoming the last team in Division I baseball to homer while managing only four in 51 games in 2013...the final game of a three-game series against Arkansas on 3/8 saw LMU nearly double its home run total to that point (five to nine), as LMU hit four homers in a single game for the first time since 4/21/10 at UC Riverside...David Fletcher (solo HR), David Edwards (2R HR), Sean Watkins (2R HR) and Tanner Donnels (3R HR) accounted for eight of LMU's nine runs in a 9-0 shutout of the #20 Razorbacks...Donnels, who has also registered a two-homer game at Pepperdine on 3/22, leads the way with five home runs, followed by Edwards and Watkins with four, and Jimmy Jack, Tedo Boeke and Austin Miller with three...Billy Wilson and David Fletcher each have two, while Chris Barnett has one...

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT
Never afraid to wear a pitch to reach first base, LMU has recorded 81 hit-by-pitches over 49 games this year (1.65 per game)...the mark is fifth in the NCAA...LMU is on pace to drawing 85 hit-by-pitches during the regular season...LMU's existing program record is 112 in 2000...Austin Miller has been hit 15 times to lead the way, while Billy Wilson has been hit 14 times...15 different Lions have registered at least one hit-by-pitch...the high-water mark for the year was five hit batsmen against Saint Joseph's on 2/21 in the second game of a doubleheader, while LMU has not managed a hit-by-pitch in only 11 games this year...the five hit-by-pitches were the most for the Lions since recording five at Cal State Fullerton on 5/18/10...the Lions also recorded a walk-off hit-by-pitch in a 6-5 victory over Gonzaga on 3/27 in the bottom of the 10th (Wilson) ...
