LMU Defends Home Court, Improves to 8-2 at Home

The LMU men's tennis team (11-9) has defended its home turf well so far this year, winning its sixth straight home match and moving to 8-2 at the LMU Tennis Center this year with a 6-1 victory over New Mexico State (7-13) on Monday afternoon.

The Lions took the doubles point by way of a victory on court three after the first two split decisions. Seniors Othar Kordsachia and Felix Van Kann topped Germain Degardin and Charles Baron, 6-4, to clinch the point. Freshmen Joat Farah and Errol Smith also recorded a victory in doubles play, getting off the court first with a 6-2 victory over Trecakov/Denele of NMSU.

The Lions impressed in singles play, winning five of the six matches overall, including Smith's 6-1, 6-0 victory over Strahinja Trecakov at #1 singles. Smith is now 13-10 overall this year, including 6-2 at the top singles position. Fan Kann was next to finish for the Lions, recording a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Christofer Goncalves at #3 singles to move to 13-11 on the season.

After LMU took a loss at #4 singles, Charles Boyce won a three-set match over Paul Denele at #2 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, to hand LMU the match. Boyce is now 6-2 when playing at the #2 position.

While the match was already decided, LMU still had a pair of players seeking victories. Luke Bohuslav finished off a straight-set victory over Liam Goldberg on court five, 7-6 (6), 6-3, before Kordsachia won a third-set tiebreaker en route to posting a 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-7 victory.

With the victory, Bohuslav improved to 11-6 on the year.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday when they host Binghamton at 2 p.m. from the LMU Tennis Center. The match will be the second in a string of four straight home matches to finish off the regular season.
