The LMU baseball team (21-15, 9-6 WCC) recorded an 8-2 victory over BYU (17-18, 8-7 WCC) in the finale of a three-game West Coast Conference series on Saturday from LMU's Page Stadium. The Lions received a strong pitching performance from freshman Sean Watkins to accompany eight runs and 13 hits, including a pair of homers.

Watkins got the start and improved to 3-0 on the year after tossing six innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two. LMU's bullpen took the Lions the rest of the way to victory, as freshman Cory Abbott came on with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth, striking out a batter and inducing a double play to end the threat. He ultimately contributed two scoreless innings before junior right-hander Michael Silva pitched a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory.

With the game tied at two headed to the bottom of the fifth, LMU's bats came alive, scoring one in the fifth, three in the sixth, one in the seventh, and one more in the eighth to earn the 8-2 decision.

Doubles from Billy Wilson and David Edwards pushed what proved to be the game-winning run across in the fifth before LMU utilized the long ball to the tune of three runs in the sixth. Jimmy Jack belted his third of the year to start the inning before Austin Miller contributed his third, a two run shot, to cap the frame.

Miller finished the game 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and the two RBI, while Edwards was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two driven in. Jack and Ted Boeke also contributed two hits, including Boeke going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Boeke's double proved critical to LMU's run in the seventh, as it came with two out and pushed runners to second and third, setting the table for an RBI-infield single from Kyle Dozier. The Lions manufactured the run in the eighth, as Miller led off with a single to first base before moving to second on a wild pitch. The speedy centerfielder moved up 90 feet on a ground ball to the right side before coming in to score on a sacrifice fly from David Fletcher.

LMU batted 7-for-14 with two out on Saturday, delivering five two-out RBI.

LMU will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts UNLV at 6 p.m.
