LOS ANGELES- Senior Laura Lopez scored five goals and junior Ivana Castro added four as the 17th-ranked LMU women's water polo team claimed a second straight win in Golden Coast Conference play, defeating Fresno Pacific, 12-5, Friday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 17-9 overall and 2-1 in the GCC. Fresno Pacific falls to 7-18 overall and 0-2 in GCC.
The game was tied at 1-1 after the first quarter when the Lions scored four of the next five goals to take a 5-2 lead. Fresno Pacific would add a goal in the final minute to cut the Lions' lead to 5-3 at the half.
LMU defense, led by goalie Jordan White, clamped down in the third quarter, shutting out the Sunbirds. White had three of her seven saves in the quarter. The Lions would add three, two by Lopez, to stretch the lead to 8-3.
The Lions would add four more in the final quarter to pull away.
LMU will conclude their nine-game home stand with the final home game of the 2015 season with Senior Day on Saturday. The Lions will host No. 3 USC at 1 pm.
