The LMU men's tennis team (8-7, 0-3 WCC) led 3-2 with two singles matches left to be decided, but Portland (8-3, 1-0 WCC) came back to record victories on courts five and six to knock off the Lions, 4-3, on Friday at Portland's Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The Lions dropped the doubles point before posting straight-set victories on each of the top two courts. Charles Boyce knocked off Steffen Dierauf, 6-3, 6-4, before Errol Smith outlasted Reid DeLaubenfels, 7-6 (6), 7-5, on court two. A Pilot victory on court three left the score knotted at 2-2 before Cristobal Rivera won his seventh straight match, 7-6 (3), 6-3, to hand LMU the 3-2 lead.

Unfortunately for the Lions, a pair of Portland freshmen stepped up in a big way to hand the Pilots the win. Both matches went three sets on courts five and six, as Pierre Garcia pulled out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 spot to tie the match and then Jared Madison clinched the victory with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The Lions will continue WCC play on Saturday when they travel to Gonzaga for a match at Noon.
