The LMU baseball team (11-8, 2-1 WCC) earned a series victory over Santa Clara (8-10, 1-2 WCC) on Sunday, capturing game three by a score of 5-2 from LMU's Page Stadium. The Lions received a quality start from freshman Tylor Megill, who went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts to improve to 4-1 with the victory.

Offensively, LMU received two-hit days from David Fletcher and Sean Watkins. Fletcher finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Watkins scored a run as part of a 2-for-4 day. Sophomore Austin Miller also excelled in the rubber game of the series, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk out of the leadoff spot.

Senior David Edwards muscled up for his second home run of the year in the bottom of the first, putting LMU on the board with a solo shot to right field. The native of Tustin, Calif. also drew one of LMU's four hit-by-pitches, finishing 1-for-4 on the day.

Jose Vizcaino, Jr. did all the damage for Santa Clara, belting his fourth homer of the year in the top of the third to hand the Broncos a lead that would hold until the bottom of the fourth.

The Lions took advantage of a few Santa Clara mistakes in a four-run fourth, plating the four on three hits and two errors to take the 5-2 lead that would prove to be the final. Tanner Donnels reached on catcher's interference to start the frame before a Watkins single and a Ted Boeke hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with one out. LMU elected to pinch hit with Joe Christian with the bags full, and Christian dribbled an RBI-grounder to third base that was relayed home but dropped on a tough play to even the tally at 2-2. A strikeout put the second out on the board with the bases still full, but Miller made sure the Lions put up a crooked number, shooting a two-RBI single into right-centerfield to bring home Boeke and Watkins. A throwing error charged to reliever Evan Brisentine on a pickoff play allowed the runners to move up 90 feet, setting the table for an infield single from Fletcher to plate the fourth and final run of the inning.

The first two runs of the fourth were charged to starter Peter Hendron, as he ultimately took the loss and fell to 1-1 on the year after going three-plus frames and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.

Sophomore J.D. Busfield, who earned the victory on Saturday, entered in a three-run ballgame in the ninth and eventually earned his sixth save in as many chances with a scoreless final frame. The right-hander did have to work through a bit of a jam, as he allowed a single and a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but he finished the game with a strikeout of pinch hitter Ryan Budnick to seal the victory.

LMU will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts San Diego State at 6 p.m. from Page Stadium.
