The LMU men's tennis team (6-6) had to battle a tough Yale team and high temperatures, but came out with a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs (9-4) on Saturday at the LMU Tennis Center.

While the 90-degree heat certainly isn't the highest in the country at the moment, it was a certain change of pace for Southern California. LMU responded nicely out of the gates, winning all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and pull ahead 1-0 in the team score.

Cristobal Rivera and Joat Farah, playing up a spot at #3 and #4, quickly handed LMU the 3-0 match lead with straight-set victories, but Yale refused to surrender without a fight. A 7-5, 6-2 victory from Daniel Faierman at #5 singles put the Bulldogs on the board before Martin Svenning outlasted Errol Smith in a back-and-forth well-contested match, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), at #2 singles. With the Lions leading 3-2, attention turned to the extreme courts, with Charles Boyce and Luke Bohuslav competing at #1 and #6 for the Lions, respectively.

Bohuslav dropped the opener, 6-3, but rebounded nicely to take down Fedor Andrienko, 6-2, 6-1 in the final two stanzas to seal the Lion victory. Just as Smith did on the second court, Boyce battled extremely tough in a tight match, eventually earning the tie-breaking decision by scores of 4-6, 7-6 (5), 3-2 (5).

LMU will have a short rest before returning to action on Tuesday for a pair of home matches. The Lions will host Utah at 11 a.m. before playing Army at 3 p.m.
