Members of the LMU women's tennis team will compete in the Jack Kramer Invitational Thursday through Monday at the Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills, Calif. Joining the Lions in the tournament are players from Arizona, Baylor, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Washington.
The Lions most recently competed at the ITA Regional Tournament, where junior Jessica Perez reached the round of 16. Perez was one of five LMU women's tennis players competing in the tournament.
The native of Laguna Niguel, Calif. received a first-round bye in the tournament, but began her run in the round of 64 with a victory over Danielle Feneridis of Pepperdine, 6-0, 6-1. In the next round, Perez dispatched Paola Diaz of San Diego State, 6-1, 6-0, but fell to USC's Gabrielle Smith, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 16.
Kristine Kouyoumjian and Andrea Crespo also earned singles victories at the tournament, with Kouyoumjian posting a win over UC Irvine's Taylor LeFridge, 7-5, 6-2, in the first round. Crespo, who also had a bye in round one, defeated Tatum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, in the round of 64.
Anna Romeka was forced to retire in her first-round match against UCSB's Paulina Dubavets, and Tatijana Sheikhan dropped a pair of matches to opponents from San Diego State and San Diego.
On the doubles side, Kouyoumjian and Perez suffered an 8-1 setback at the hands of Cutura/Maddox of Pepperdine, and Crespo/Sheikhan fell to Pepperdine's Runglerdkriangkrai/Stefani by a score of 8-2.
The Jack Kramer Invitational is the final fall tournament for the Lions, as they will return to action on January 30 at 11 a.m. when they open the regular season against Cal State Northridge at home.
