BARCELONA, Spain -Like the other seven international players on the LMU men's basketball roster, junior transfer David Humphries journey to the Lions was a lengthy one. After two years in Iowa, Humphries found himself in Los Angeles and now in Spain for his birthday.

Humprhies turned 23 on Monday and to celebrate the Lions earned a 97-75 win over a group of all-star players in Barcelona from Spain's Division III in the third of four games on their trip through Spain. He talked with the LMU Sports Network about his birthday, the time in Spain and his journey to LMU.

"This trip has been good because we are getting to know each other better and we are getting opportunities to better as a unit," said Humphries. "My goal is for us to just keep getting to know one another and getting better as a group for the rest of this trip."

As for the game, Evan Payne scored 25 points to lead the Lions (unofficially), followed by Matt Hayes with 18, and senior Ayodeji Egbeyemi and Godwin Okonji scoring 13 each.

It was back-and-forth in the first quarter with the Lions leading by one, 21-20. They would extend the lead to nine, 47-38, at the break. The Lions would trail 34-28 four minutes in after back-to-back buckets by the Barcelona team. An 8-0 run by the Lions, including four points from Payne, erased the lead and gave them a 36-34 lead. The game would get tied at 36-36 and again at 38-38.

The Lions would then put the game away by ending the first half on a 9-0 run, including four points from Simon Krajcovic and a three-pointer by Hayes. They put a strong grip on the game to start the second half. After Barcelona scored the first bucket, a 7-0 run put the lead at double digits, 54-40 and would not get lower.

The Lions will practice in the morning on Tuesday before touring the city of Barcelona. They will play their final game at 3 pm on Wednesday against another mixed all-star team of Barcelona players.
