LOS ANGELES - The collegiate careers of LMU softball senior
Meghan Harman and
Samantha Nelson will come to a close this weekend at Smith Field as the Lions wrap up the 2014 season with a three-game West Coast Conference series against Santa Clara. The teams will face off in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3 beginning at noon, followed by a single game Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Lions enter the weekend at 20-24 overall and 1-10 in their inaugural season in the WCC. The young squad that features a combined 21 freshman and sophomores has had its ups and downs, but looks to go out on a positive note for Harman and Nelson.
Santa Clara sits at 7-31 overall and 2-7 in the WCC. The Broncos are batting .242 as a team and are led by Stephanie Fisher who hits .373 with nine doubles, two triples and four home runs. Breezy Bernard is the only other Bronco batting over .300 (.326). Kelly Scribner leads the team with six home runs. The SCU pitching staff holds a combined 4.39 ERA.
Harman heads into her final collegiate games hitting a team high .369 with six doubles and 10 home runs. She continues to lead the league in runs (30), home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.694). Sterling Shuster is hitting at a .320 clip while Alex Finie is batting .281 and is tied for the WCC lead with 10 doubles.
The Lions hold a 56-49 all-time record against Santa Clara. Last year, the teams split a four-game series as three of the four games went into extra innings.
