Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU baseball team (21-14, 10-4 WCC) scored eight times in the third inning en route to running away with an 11-1 victory over Saint Mary's (13-20, 5-6 WCC) on Saturday at LMU's Page Stadium. With the victory, LMU took its fifth consecutive series over the Gaels.

Four LMU hitters finished with multiple hits, including Tanner Donnels and Ted Boeke with three apiece. Donnels went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a pair of doubles and a career-high four RBI. Boeke was perfect on Saturday, finishing 3-for-3 with his first career triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Junior David Edwards also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.

Senior Patrick McGrath was the benefactor of the offensive outburst, going six innings and allowing one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five to improve to 5-1 with the win.

Saint Mary's starter Cameron Neff was roughed up over 2.1 innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and two walks before falling to 5-4 with the loss.

Edwards got the Lions on the board in the second inning with an RBI-single into centerfield to bring home Donnels, but Saint Mary's evened the tally at one with a run of its own in the third as Collin Ferguson shot a two-out single into left field that brought home Dalton Frize.

The Lions sent 12 men to the plate in the eight-run third inning, as the Lions scored the eight on seven hits and an error to take a 9-1 lead after three. Boeke collected two of his three hits in the frame, reaching with a one-out single to start the rally and posting a two-RBI triple to cap the scoring run. Other highlights of the frame included an RBI-single from freshman David Fletcher, a two-RBI double from Donnels, and a two-RBI single off the bat of Edwards.

Boeke once again got the lineup going in the sixth inning as LMU tacked on two more runs to push the tally to 11-1. Boeke singled to third base before Kyle Dozier collected his second hit of the year to push runners to the corners. After Tommy Cheek was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Donnels collected his second two-RBI double of the game to drive home the runs.

LMU will look for the sweep of Saint Mary's tomorrow at 1 pm.
