LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU baseball team (14-8, 4-0 WCC) shut out #17 San Diego (14-7, 3-1 WCC) by a score of 7-0 behind 8.0 scoreless innings of work from junior Colin Welmon on Friday night at USD's Fowler Park. With the victory, LMU has now won 12 of its last 13 games overall.

Welmon earned the victory and improved to 4-1 after tossing the 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and no walks while striking out three. In three career starts against USD, Welmon has allowed just one run over 25 innings, tossing a complete-game as a freshman and 8.0 shutout in each of the last two years. He has pitched to a 3-0 record with a .36 ERA, striking out 18 and allowing just two extra-base hits and one walk while combining on a pair of shutouts.

Playing against his former team, senior Tommy Cheek finished 4-for-5 with three RBI, extending his hit streak to seven straight games and recording his 10th multi-hit performance of the year. The reigning WCC Player of the Week recorded a two-RBI single in the three-run second before collecting an RBI-single in the seventh.

Junior Jimmy Jack made the most of his one at bat, belting a pinch-hit solo homer in the eighth to extend LMU's lead to 7-0. The round-tripper was Jack's third of the year.

LMU tagged preseason All-American PJ Conlon for six runs on six hits and four walks over 6.1 IP, pushing his record to 3-1 on the year.

The shutout victory was the second of the year for LMU, while the Toreros were shut out for the first time this season.

LMU and USD will continue the three-game series tomorrow at 6 pm.
