Complete Ben Brown Invitational Results
LOS ANGELES - Personal and program records broke left and right for the LMU men's and women's track teams over the weekend at the Occidental Distance Carnival and the Ben Brown Invitational.
Three school records fell on Friday and Saturday, including two on the men's side and one on the women's. Weston Strum led the way with a career performance in the 1500m run. The senior won his section in a meet and LMU record time of 3:42.67, besting his previous personal best by nearly four seconds.
Michael Vorgitch and Kyra Burke dropped LMU records on Friday night at Occidental to round out the trio. Vorgitch raced to a 9:08.99 finish in the 3000m steeplechase while Burke took down the LMU record on the women's side in her 3000m steeplechase debut, finishing in 11:02.73.
"It was a great weekend on the track for the Lions," said Head Coach Scott Guerrero. "We saw three school records fall, saw numerous career bests and may even have recorded a few marks good enough to get us into the postseason. It's early yet but it's definitely our best-ever start to the season."
In the women's 5000m run at Cal State Fullerton, six Lions turned in career best times. In her 5000m debut, freshman Danielle Shanahan set an LMU freshman record with a time of 16:32.95.
Grace Graham-Zamudio's turned in a career time of 16:45.47 while Kelli Sugimoto (16:57.62), Taylor Paschen (17:40.08) and Melanie Joerger (17:48.97) all achieved career-marks as well.
In the women's 1500m run, Lyndsey Mull (4:39.58), Chloe Curtis (4:42.72) and Coralie Eilers (5:10.25) achieved career best times.
On the men's side, freshman Grant Lapovich made his debut in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 10:05.05, while sophomore Lance Capel trimmed nearly 30 seconds off his career best in the 5000m, finishing in 15:11.00.
The Lions will be back in action March 21-22, traveling to the UC Irvine Spring Break Invite.
