Sacramento, Calif. - The LMU men's tennis team is off to a good start, getting a 5-2 win at Sacramento St. to open their season Saturday. After only winning four matches in 2013, first year head coach Tom Lloyd has his team sitting at 1-0 going into play tomorrow at UC Davis.
In doubles play, the Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, clinching the doubles point. On Court 2, sophomore Cristobal Rivera and junior Felix Van Kann were paired together and came away with a 6-2 win. Sophomore David Doehring and senior Daniel Simko also won 6-2 for LMU on Court 3. The match on Court 1 went unfinished.
LMU then went on to win four matches in singles play, dominating at the top of the lineup. Doehring won 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot on Court 1. Van Kann won 6-2, 6-3 on Court 2 to give the Lions another point. On Court 3, Rivera battled hard before coming away with a three-set win 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. And clinching the team win for LMU was senior Sebastian Bustamante who came from a set down to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
The Lions continue their weekend road trip Sunday when they face UC Davis at 1:00p.m.
