Nov. 20, 2014 Former Lion Jason Wheeler (2009-11) was added to the Minnesota Twins' 40-man roster on Thursday. Wheeler was one of four players added to the roster, including top-prospects Miguel Sano, Alex Meyer and Eddie Rosario.
Wheeler, 24, posted a 2.67 ERA in 158 1/3 innings across Class A Advanced Fort Myers, Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester last year. He made 13 starts with a 2.51 ERA at Fort Myers before he was promoted to Double-A in late June. Wheeler had a 2.78 ERA in 12 starts at New Britain and also made a spot start with Rochester in late July, giving up two runs in five innings.
Wheeler, the brother of former Lion and Major Leaguer Ryan Wheeler, has a career 3.26 ERA in three professional seasons since being selected by the Twins in the eighth round of the '11 Draft.
Prior to being drafted in 2011, Wheeler was LMU's Friday starter throughout his junior year, finishing the season with a 6-4 record and a 3.84 ERA over 14 starts and 103 innings of work. The 6'6" lefty dealt three complete games, including one complete-game shutout, to go along with 71 strikeouts.
