LOS ANGELES - The LMU women's soccer team finally broke the seal with its first goal scored on the road, but it would not be enough to overcome a potent USC attack in a 5-1 final at the Trojans' McAlister Field Sunday afternoon.

The No. 23 ranked Trojans (4-2-1) posted three goals in the first 10 minutes of play and scored five times in the first frame to take a commanding 5-1 lead at the break.

Tawni Martino provided the Lions (3-5-0) with a spark offensively, including netting her 18th career goal. Her long left-footed shot from the left corner of the box into the far post netting snapped LMU's scoreless streak in road games this fall. It also moves the senior just two goals shy of the all-time LMU record of 20, held by Lori Sims (2002-05) and Heather Farr (1993-97).

Freshman goalkeeper Sophia Leksan earned her first playing time of the season, making two saves in her second-half appearance and keeping USC off the board in the 45-minute period.

LMU returns to Sullivan Field, where it is 3-0 this season, hosting UC Irvine Friday at 7 p.m. and UCLA Sunday at 4 p.m. The Lions will honor their program's alumni during Friday's match while Sunday's game will be free to all LMU Alumni BBQ ticket holders.
