PORTLAND, Ore. -- The LMU men's tennis team got two wins in singles play Friday but it was not enough as the Portland Pilots prevailed with a 5-2 home victory Friday. LMU drops to 2-16 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while the Pilots improve to 10-7 and 2-2 in the WCC. The Pilots have been tough at home all year, now with a mark of 6-2 in the Rose City.

In the doubles round, the Lions were setback on Courts 2 and 3 early. The two Portland wins there were enough to clinch the doubles point for the Pilots. However, on Court 3, the LMU duo of German sophomores Felix Van Kann and Othar Kordsachia continued their impressive play together, getting the 8-5 win. The two remain undefeated as a pair with five wins and two matches going unfinished.

In the singles round, Portland would go up early and never look back. The Pilots won on all of the top three courts to secure the team victory. Then playing at No. 4 singles, freshman Cristobal Rivera got a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 win and at the No. 6 position, junior Daniel Simko came from a set down to win 6-7, 6-4, 10-8. Portland would also win on Court 5 to make it a 5-2 win for the home team.

Saturday's match against Gonzaga will be a good opportunity for the Lions, as LMU defeated the Bulldogs earlier in the year at home in a non-conference match. The team will play in Spokane at 1:30 p.m.
