Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU baseball team (18-17) earned a 4-1 victory over #17 UCLA (22-10) in the finale of a three-game non-conference series being played at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Sunday.

Junior Patrick McGrath got the start and earned the victory, tossing five innings and allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three. With the win, McGrath improved to 2-1 on the year. Matt Florer and Carlos Fuentes combined for three scoreless innings of relief before Bret Dahlson tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record his fourth save of the year.

LMU got on the board first in the first inning as David Edwards singled and came around to score on a two-out RBI-single from Colton Plaia. Edwards finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. Plaia notched his 12th multi-hit game of the year on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a RBI.

Edwards, who hit out of the leadoff spot, scored in the third inning as well when Plaia hit a one-hopper off the glove of Kevin Kramer at third base for an error, allowing the speedy shortstop to scamper home from third base and hand LMU the 2-0 lead.

Kramer got the run back after the error in the fourth, sending his second home run of the season over the wall in right field to lead off the inning and cut the deficit to 2-1.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the middle innings, but the tally stayed 2-1 headed into the eighth. Matt Lowenstein and Zac Fujimoto each came around to score in the inning, as Lowenstein was brought in by Fujimoto's RBI-single up the middle before Joey Boney, who started in right field, plated the native of Aeia, Hawai'i.

Left-hander Grant Watson got the start and took the loss after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk. The loss dropped Watson to 5-2 on the year.

LMU will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts USC at 3 p.m.
