LOS ANGELES -- After two consecutive wins, the LMU men's tennis team's brief streak came to an end Tuesday as No. 72 Oklahoma St. defeated the Lions 6-1 at the LMU Tennis Center. The Lions drop to 2-11 and the Cowboys improve to 7-5.
After a tough ten losses to start the season, LMU had bounced back last weak to earn their first victories of the season. But the momentum was not enough as this week the Lions play two ranked opponents in as many days, with LMU falling to the NO. 72 Cowboys today and opening up conference play at No. 11 Pepperdine Wednesday.
In the doubles round, Oklahoma St. showed its dominance early. The Cowboy duo on Court 1 earned an easy 8-1 victory and finished first. Oklahoma St. won 8-3 on Court 3 as well, clinching the doubles point for the Cowboys. Once the doubles point had been decided, the referee ended the match on Court 2 as an unfinished result.
The Cowboys continued their excellence in the singles round, winning on five of six courts. The lone Lion to win was Sebastian Bustamante, who defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-4 on Court 4.
The Lions will play at Pepperdine at 11:00a.m. Wednesday.
