LOS ANGELES -- Four members of the LMU men's tennis team competed in Costa Mesa, Calif. over the weekend in the Costa Mesa Pro Classic, a futures tournament designed to showcase upcoming talent that includes current and former collegiate players.
In the first round of the qualifying draw, sophomore Felix Van Kann defeated American Brian Iklaban 6-0, 6-0 while LMU newcomer and sophomore transfer Othar Kordsachia won his match 7-6 (6), 6-3 over American Jayson Amos. Sophomore Todd Volmari lost his opening match 3-6, 5-7 to American Devin Lane while junior Daniel Simko lost his first match 2-6, 0-6 to American Ryan Thacher.
The two remaining Lions ran out of steam in the second round of the qualifying draw as Van Kann fell to Romanian Costin Paval 3-6, 1-6 and Kordsachia lost to American Dennis Mkrtchian 1-6, 1-6.
The Lions will continue their fall slate with the Irvine Futures tournament in Irvine, Calif. next weekend. The tournament begins this Friday, Sept. 21.
