SAN BRUNO, Calif. - LMU junior outfielder Matt Lowenstein earned Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week accolades after going on an offensive tear atop the LMU order last week. Lowenstein, the 2010 WCC Freshman of the Year, was named WCC Player of the Week once last year while also being named WCC Player of the Month for the month of February a season ago. The weekly honor is the third of the year for LMU as Colton Plaia garnered WCC Player of the Week on April 2 before Colin Welmon took home Pitcher of the Week last week.
Lowenstein hit .533 (8-for-15) with six runs scored, five walks and a RBI over four games last week. The leadoff hitter was outstanding in the weekend series against Pepperdine, hitting .700 (7-for-10) with four runs scored, a double and four walks. He reached base in each of his first 10 plate appearances against the Waves, spanning each of the first two contests. The native of Chino Hills, Calif. slugged .800 and reached at a .786 clip.
LMU and Lowenstein will conclude the home portion of the 2012 season on Tuesday when they welcome UC Riverside to Page Stadium for a game at 3 p.m. The Lions will then finish the season with a three-game series at Santa Clara over the weekend.
