SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced this morning that LMU senior Ashley Anderson has been named to the 2012 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic Team. The senior received the honor for her outstanding achievement both in the classroom and on the court this season. An economics major, Anderson currently has a 3.39 grade point average.
Anderson has progressed to #1 doubles during her senior season. Along with partner Tory Parravi, the duo had a six-match win streak over the months of February and March. Anderson and Parravi's victories this season include a win over Juliette Coupez and Laura Claus from, then, 71st-ranked San Diego.
In singles, Anderson is 4-2 in conference, winning her last two matches. She had a three-match win streak in late Match-early April. She finished the regular season with three wins in her last four matches.
Four members of this year's team appeared on last year's All-Academic squad: Portland's Valeska Hoath, San Diego's Juliette Coupez and Laura Claus, and Santa Clara's Kelly Lamble.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects 12 individuals to the all-academic squad to mirror the all-conference women's tennis team. To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of nomination, be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing, and prove to be a significant contributor to her team.
Ashley will be with the Lions in San Diego for the WCC Championships, which begin Wednesday, April 25. Fourth-seeded LMU will take on ninth-seeded Portland in a first-round match on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. The winner of the Tennis Championships will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
