The LMU swimming team will make the short trip to East Los Angeles College this week to take part in the 2012 MPSF Championships. The four-day competition begins on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the women's 200 medley relay.
LMU swept a double-dual on Jan. 28 at CSU Bakersfield, defeating the host Roadrunners (156-124) and Cal Baptist (161-129). The Lions were the first to clock in through four events, including Kjirsten Magnuson's 50 Free (24.11), Tammy Choy's 200 Back (2:05.54), Yvonne Le's 100 Fly (59.17), and in the 200 Free Relay (1:38.50). The Lions, who ended the regular season on Feb. 4 at UNLV (91-156), placed fifth at the MPSF Meet in 2011.
LMU enters the meet with a number of swimmers in the Top-16 of races, including placing in the Top-8 of four races.

UC SANTA BARBARA Sophia Yamauchi helped lead the Gauchos to their fourth consecutive dual meet win to end the season last Saturday, swimming past visiting Cal Poly (169-129). Yamauchi won both the 100 (1:03.19) and the 200 Breast (2:16.99), and helped the 200 Medley Relay (1:45.50) to a first-place finish. Andrea Ward claimed the 200 Fly (2:04.77), 200 Free (1:52.20), and 100 Fly (55.95), while Allie Knight stopped the clock first in the 200 Back (2:03.54) and 200 IM (2:06.90). UC Santa Barbara placed second last year at the MPSF Championships.
CAL POLY Lacey Buck scored two victories in the regular season-ending dual vs. UCSB, taking the 1000 Free (10:22.84) and 500 Free (5:02.74). Sami McIntyre won the 3M diving board. The Mustangs were MPSF Bronze Medalists in 2011.
UC DAVIS had its five-meet dual win streak snapped at the hands of UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 28 at home. Kayleigh Foley and Megan Leung were double-event winners, as the former took the 200 (1:49.87) and 50 Free (23.65), and the latter the 200 (2:04.62) and 100 Fly (56.63). Katie Edwards claimed the 100 Free (52.49). The Aggies look to defend their MPSF Title from the inaugural conference meet in 2011, scoring 726 points last year, 97 points ahead of second place UCSB.
CSU BAKERSFIELD Evan Vizcarra led a 174-111 victory over Cal Baptist on Jan. 28, taking first place in the 500 Free (4:40.39), 1000 Free (9:32.78) and 200 Fly (1:55.57).... Rachel McCall won three events and helped win the 400 Medley Relay in a double-dual against LMU and Cal Baptist. She won the 200 Free (1:51.73), and 100 (1:06.33) and 200 Breast (2:23.87). The Roadrunner men won the inaugural MPSF Title in 2011, scoring 647 points and 148 ahead of second place Pacific.
UNLV Steven Nelms swept the sprint free events in a 149-91 win over Air Force on Jan. 28. He won the 50 (20.38), and 100 Free (45.90), while also swimming on both first place relays, the 200 Medley (1:30.09) and the 200 Free (1:23.73). The Rebel men appear in the MPSF Championships for the first time.
NORTH DAKOTA Adam Gannon won three individual titles in the dual with South Dakota State on Jan. 27, taking the 400 IM (4:02.81), 100 (57.57), and 200 Breast (2:07.03). In the win over South Dakota, he nabbed another trio of wins to solidify MPSF Athlete of the Week honors, including 200 Free (1:41.44), 200 Breast (2:08.60) and 400 IM (4:08.11). He also swam the second leg of UND's second place 400 Medley Relay team on both days. UND men appear for the first time in the MPSF Meet.
PACIFIC MaryElla Randall (100 Free, 52.67), Hayley Shillington (200 Free, 1:51.91), and Shelby Bolin (200 Back, 2:08.01) all registered victories for the Tiger women against UCSB on Jan. 27. Roger Ward was a double-event winner in 100 (58.66) and 200 Breast (2:06.20). Pacific men and women were second and seventh respectively at last year's MPSF Championships.
NORTHERN COLORADO came up with several runner-up finishes in a home split with Colorado Mines and Wyoming on Jan. 28. Jennifer Smith was second in the 50 Free (25.14), as was Jessica Reed-Baum in the 100 Free (54.87), Tatum Boehnke in the 1000 Free (10:57.13) and Hannah Halstrom in the 200 Fly (2:14.09). The Bears are coming off a sixth place finish in 2011.
SAN DIEGO Keenan Lineback established a new team season-best in the 1000 Free when she took second (10:18.81) against San Diego State. Taylor Noonan also posted a team-best in the 200 Back (2:07.77) en route to a second-place finish, while Francesca Finucane came up with another runner-up finish in the 200 Free (1:52.12). The Toreros were fourth last year at the conference meet.
SEATTLE U finished 1-2-3 in the 200 Breast, led by Alexis Morehouse (2:22.88), followed by Kevlyn Richards (2:26.18) and Karla Ruff (2:27.64), in the dual at Nevada. Ruff earned the Redhawks' other event victory in the 200 Free (1:59.45).
WYOMING Jayce Calhoon helped the 400 Medley Relay to an early victory (3:36.31), en route to the Cowboys' 160-94 rout of Colorado Mines. He added titles in the 100 Back (53.02) and 100 Fly (54.18). The Cowboys are making their first appearance in the MPSF Championships.
BYU men and women came out on top in their final duals over Utah, 161-139 and 162-138, respectively on Jan. 27. The Cougar men and women make their first appearance at the MPSF Championships.
AIR FORCE Corydon Butler was a double-event winner at UNLV on Jan. 28, taking the 200 (1:40.72) and 500 Free (4:35.83). The Falcon men make their first appearance at the MPSF Championships.
