MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The LMU women's tennis team had a strong showing in Tennessee this weekend at the Memphis Invitational, which included teams from the University of Memphis, Drake University, and the University of Tennessee at Martin. LMU went 13-5 in singles and 7-2 doubles over the weekend.
Six Lions competed over the weekend: senior April Bisharat, sophomore Tory Parravi, juniors Claudia Razzeto, Reka Rohonyi, and Miya Jin, along with freshman Kristine Kouyoumjian.
On Friday, the Lions played six singles matches against Tennessee-Martin and three doubles matches against Memphis. In singles play, the Lions earned the 6-0 sweep, but fell 1-2 in doubles competition.
LMU then played their singles matches against Memphis while playing doubles with Drake on Saturday. The Lions only won two of their six contests with Memphis but swept Drake 3-0 in doubles. LMU's singles wins over Memphis included a victory by Bisharat over 115th-ranked Tiffany Welcher of Memphis, 7-6, 6-2.
Sunday, the Lions wrapped up their weekend with five out of six wins against Drake in singles play, and sweep of Tennessee-Martin in doubles rounding out a weekend in which every player had at least a win in singles and doubles and Bisharat and Parravi each went 3-0 in singles.
The Lions look to continue the momentum from Memphis in next weekend's ITA Regional Tournament in San Diego. The tournament begins this Thursday, Oct. 18.
