Inside Lion Baseball: Getting to Know Joey Boney

Jan. 3, 2012

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - As the 2012 season approaches, we here at LMULions.com would like to introduce you to some of the new baseball players who are entering their first season with the Lions. We have asked all the newcomers a series of questions that range from why they chose LMU to what we would find in their refrigerator at this very moment. If you have any additional question that you'd like to see answered in the future, please feel free to email Tyler Geivett at tgeivett@lmu.edu.

This week's question and answer session will feature junior infielder, Joey Boney.

LMULions.com: What did you do this summer?
Joey Boney: Played in the New York Collegiate League.

LMU: Why did you choose LMU?
JB: I believe that the baseball program fits my style of play the most. The campus is gorgeous and in a perfect location. The education is key for my life after baseball.

LMU: Do you have a nickname? Explain the meaning behind it.
JB: I have had a couple in the past years Bo, Bones, and J-Bone all dealing with my last name. The newest, Home Depot Joe, was given to me by roommates Nick Devian, Matt Florer, Nick Truhan and Aaron Griffin because I have adopted the roles of fixing everything around the house.

LMU: What is your greatest highlight on the field?
JB: Leading my team to victory in my first CIF game in high school going 3-for-3 with a single shy of the cycle and a game-winning home run.

LMU: After LMU, what do you want to do?
JB: I wish I knew the answer to that question.

LMU: What is your most embarrassing moment on the field?
JB: I don't have embarrassing moments on the field.

LMU: Who is the funniest guy on the team?
JB: Toss up between Cullen Mahoney and Nick Devian.

LMU: Do you have any superstitions?
JB: I have the same routine every time I come up to bat where I hit the end of my bat on both of my toes then both of my hamstrings then bring the end of the bat up and tap the side of my helmet.

LMU: Do you have any hidden talents?
JB: I can do many variations of back flips. My favorite is running up a wall and back flipping off of it. Ninja Powers.

LMU: What is your favorite place around LMU?
JB: ΔLTΔVΔN House.

LMU: What is your favorite baseball team?
JB: Bronx Bombers.

LMU: What is the early favorite for your walk-up song?
JB: What's the Difference by Dr. Dre.

LMU: What is your favorite movie?
JB: The Sandlot or Green Street Hooligans

LMU: What is your favorite book?
JB: Beyond Belief, Josh Hamilton's biography.

LMU: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
JB: I guess flying would be cool.

LMU: If I take a look inside your refrigerator, what would I find?
JB: A lot of stuff that probably needs to be thrown away.

LMU: What is your motto or advice you live by?
JB: Times are changing.

LMU: Name at least one television show that you watch every week.
JB: SportsCenter, House, Modern Family, The Office.

LMU: What is your most prized possession?
JB: Derek Jeter singed baseball.

LMU: Who is your biggest influence in life?
JB: Parents hands down.
