LOS ANGELES, Calif. - As the 2012 season approaches, we here at LMULions.com would like to introduce you to some of the new baseball players who are entering their first season with the Lions. We have asked all the newcomers a series of questions that range from why they chose LMU to what we would find in their refrigerator at this very moment. If you have any additional question that you'd like to see answered in the future, please feel free to email Tyler Geivett at tgeivett@lmu.edu.
This week's question and answer session will feature freshman left-hander, Sean Buckle.
LMULions.com: What did you do this summer?
Sean Buckle: This summer I was recovering from a recent injury. I broke my C-2 vertebrae and went through two surgeries so my summer was focused on getting my health back.
LMU: Why did you choose LMU?
SB: I chose LMU because I knew I was going to get a great education, be part of a great D-1 baseball program, and it is near the beach.
LMU: Do you have a nickname? Explain the meaning behind it.
SB: People call me Buck or Young Buck, but there is no meaning behind it.
LMU: What is your greatest highlight on the field?
SB: Having 22 strikeouts in 10 innings during two starts in one week of my senior year of high school.
LMU: After LMU, what do you want to do?
SB: Possibly play in the pros or start my own business. Then I would like to be a father and start a family.
LMU: What is your most embarrassing moment on the field?
SB: When I dropped a routine fly ball in the outfield against our high school rival, Lakewood.
LMU: Who is the funniest guy on the team?
SB: I think it's a tie between Nick Devian and Cullen Mahoney.
LMU: Do you have any superstitions?
SB: I don't drink Gatorade or eat seeds if I am playing in a game.
LMU: Do you have any hidden talents?
SB: Not that I'm aware of.
LMU: What is your favorite place around LMU?
SB: The freshmen dorms.
LMU: What is your favorite baseball team?
SB: The Yankees.
LMU: What is the early favorite for your walk-up song?
SB: Still Dre or Ain't Nothing But A G-Thang by Dr. Dre. Maybe Hypnotized by Notorious B.I.G. Or Garden Grove by Sublime.
LMU: What is your favorite movie?
SB: Wedding Crashers or Point Break.
LMU: What is your favorite book?
SB: The Captain Underpants series.
LMU: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
SB: I would want to transport from place to place because I could be somewhere in a second.
LMU: If I take a look inside your refrigerator, what would I find?
SB: Water, some fruit, hot pockets, and Mitchell's huge bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch.
LMU: What is your motto or advice you live by?
SB: "What you do in practice, you do in a game."
LMU: Name at least one television show that you watch every week.
SB: I used to watch Dexter but we don't get those channels here in the dorms.
LMU: What is your most prized possession?
SB: My signed John Wooden basketball.
LMU: Who is your biggest influence in life?
SB: My father, Larry Buckle. He has taught me how to play the game of baseball right and made me the man I am today.
