LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The sixth-ranked LMU women's water polo team got the 2011 season off with five games away from home in whirl-wind weekend that saw them go through three time zones. That was three weeks ago and they haven't played since -- until this weekend.
The Lions 2011 season got off to its earliest start thanks to its first-ever trip to Colorado on Jan. 20. It will finally resume when they head south to a familiar place as they play in the 2011 UC San Diego Triton Invitational. The Lions, 4-1 to start the year, will open with Western Water Polo Association upstart Cal State East Bay at Canyonview Pool on the UCSD campus, Saturday at 8 a.m.
LMU is the top seed in Group B with 13th-ranked Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield. The winners of the group B opening play will play at 2:40 p.m., while the losers will play at 1:20 p.m.
Other teams in the tournament include:
Group A: No. 3 UCLA, No. 14 Hartwick, No. 17 UCSD, Santa Clara
Group C: No. 7 Michigan, No. 12 UCSB, Long Beach St., No. 20 Marist
Group D: No. 9 San Diego St., No. 11 UC Irvine, Maryland, Sonoma State
Action continue through Sunday.
