Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

LMU Earns Senior Day Win to Remain Unbeaten in GCC

LOS ANGELES – The #7 LMU women's water polo team defeated Azusa Pacific, 14-6, on Friday night to move to 5-0 in the Golden Coast Conference with one conference game remaining.
 
Senior Anna Tarantino scored the game's first two goals, one at even strength and another with a converted penalty shot. Azusa Pacific scored with 1:23 on the clock to cut their deficit in half.
 
Cianne Benjamin opened the second quarter with an opening possession goal. After APU responded with a goal a minute later, LMU closed the quarter with three consecutive goals. Chelsea Isaac scored with 2:11 on the clock, Sophia DeMattia added one more with 1:23 remaining in the half, and Kawehi Kauahi pushed the lead to 6-2 with two seconds to play before halftime.
 
The first three goals of the second half went to the Lions, bringing the run to six unanswered. Brooke Tora Gil scored 10 seconds into the period, with Benjamin and Cila David following. The Cougars scored three of the final four goals of the third quarter over the last 2:30 to pull back within five, 10-5. Carolina Magano's goal with 26 seconds left in the quarter was the last LMU goal of the period.
 
Benjamin scored her team-high third goal of the game on a powerplay to start the final period. Emison Styris pushed the lead 12-5 with 5:05 to play in the game. Senior London Boyd closed the game with two final goals over the final 2:08.

All three LMU goalkeepers were used in the win. Madison Searle played the first half and made eight saves. Tatum Roistacher only allowed one goal in over 12 minutes in the cage. Gabby MacAfee did not allow a goal and recorded three saves over the final 3:49 of play.
 
The Lions have one final home game remaining and will host Brown on Wednesday under the lights at Burns Aquatics Center.
