WESTWOOD, Calif. – The #7 LMU women's water polo team showed their defensive prowess on Sunday afternoon's final regular season game of the season. The Lions lost in the road matchup, 9-5, to the third-ranked Bruins.
The first quarter remained close as
Carolina Magano put the Lions on the board following a pair of opening goals from the home team. After UCLA pushed back ahead by two
Chelsea Isaac scored on the 6-on-5 to cut the deficit in half with four seconds remaining in the period.
UCLA's goal at 5:35 in the second quarter was the only scoring of the period to make it a 4-2 game at the half.
The Bruins scored all four of the third quarter goals to increase their lead to 8-2.
The Lions did not give in and scored the first three goals of the final quarter to to pull back within three.
Emison Styris started the comeback bid with a converted penalty shot,
Cila David followed with a counter goal, and Isaac scored her second of the day with another powerplay goal.
Madison Searle played all 32 minutes in the cage and made nine saves with an assist.
The Lions enter the upcoming Golden Coast Conference Championships at the top seed after winning their third consecutive GCC Regular Season title with an unblemished mark in conference play. Tickets for the tournament are now available online at the
