LMUat100: Men's Soccer Hall of Fame Inductee Arturo Torres, Jr.

Nov. 1, 2011

LOS ANGELES -- Loyola Marymount University celebrates its Centennial in 2011-12, and LMU Athletics is honoring 100 years of history all season. Each of LMU's NCAA Division I programs will be hosting a Centennial Game to honor LMUat100, which includes the men's soccer match against Gonzaga on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. As we approach the match, LMULions.com will take a look back at some of the memorable moments from women's soccer history. Today's look back features the Lions' first Hall of Fame inductee, Arturo Torres, Jr.

On January 31, 2011, Arturo Torres, Jr., became the first LMU Hall of Fame inductee from the men's soccer team.

The most prolific scorer in LMU history, Torres was a member of the Lion program from 1999-2002. He holds three of the top single-season goal scoring marks in school history, including the 16 he scored as a freshman in 1999. His career numbers are staggering as he ranks atop the LMU record book in goals (46), assists (22), points (114), game-winning goals (14) and shots (225).

For his career, Torres was a six-time WCC Player of the Week selection, two-time Soccer America National Player of the Week, two-time College Soccer News National Player of the Week, two-time NSCAA All-Far West Region first team selection and one-time NSCAA first team All-American.

The Lions went a combined 42-26-8 during his four years, capped with a program-best 15-win season in 2002 and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001 and 2002.
