Malibu Invitational - Distance
The LMU swimming team dominated competition at the Malibu Invitational on Friday at Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool, winning all three distance swimming events.
The Lions posted the top-two swimmers in the 1650 freestyle event, including the winner, Mary Kate Short, in a time of 18:07.89. Short was followed by Terry Rinder at 18:27.40.
LMU ran away with the 400 individual medley race, placing each of the top-five swimmers in the race. Christina Cannata stopped the clock at 4:41.19 to finish first, followed by Yvonne Le (4:43.17) and Tammy Choy (4:46.40).
The 500 freestyle followed suit for LMU, as the Lions placed each of the first six swimmers in the event. Katie Rick claimed first place at 5:17.61, followed by freshmen Maddie Vanderpoel at 5:22.46 and Diana Safa at 5:26.19 in second and third, respectively.
The Malibu Invitational continues today with the sprint events slated to be contested starting at 9:30 a.m.
