LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU senior Tammy Choy took home the first MPSF Swimmer of the Week selection of the year, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Choy and the Lions opened the 2011 season with a bang last weekend, claiming first place at both the PCSC Relays and PCSC Pentathlon in Fresno, Calif. The Lions topped eight other squads in the relays, posting 118 points to beat second-place finisher Cal Baptist at 91. LMU went on to an even better performance in the Pentathlon, finishing with 763.5 points compared to second-place Fresno Pacific at 440.
The weekend was highlighted by senior Choy's second victory in as many years in the long medley pentathlon. Choy accumulated the highest point total by placing first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.00) and 200 individual medley (2:12.80), second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.44), third in the 100 butterfly (1:01.30), and 10th in the 100 freestyle (56.28). The native of Millbrae, Calif. was also part of three winning relays, including the 300 butterfly relay (Angelina Prat, Choy, Yvonne Le - 3:00.83), 400 medley relay (Choy, Camille Hopp, Le, Sophie Allen - 4:01.19), and 4 x 100 individual medley (Choy, Le, Dempsey Haynosch, Allen - 4:11.31).
The Lions will return to action on October 21 when they travel to Malibu, Calif. to participate in the two-day Malibu Invitational.
