Newcomers Lead Lions After Day One

Sept. 13, 2010

PULLMAN, Wash-- The LMU men's golf team finished day one of the Palouse Cougar Collegiate in fifth place out of nineteen teams. The Lions shot 565 after two rounds leaving them a stroke behind Santa Clara.

Sophomore-transfer Eduardo Chavez sits in a three way tie for twelth place after two rounds. Chavez shot 66 and 73 for a total of 139 after day one.

Freshmen Tyler Torano shot 72 and 70 in his collegiate debut and finished the day in a tie for 22nd

Both newcomers helped put the Lions in fifth place, four strokes ahead of San Jose State who sits in sixth. Washington State currently stands in first place with a two-round total of 543, ten strokes ahead of second place Portland.

Sophomore Bryan Bergna sits in a tie for 28th with a 143 and Junior Jake Sarnoff is right behind him in a tie for 34th with a 144. Sophomore Boris Stantchev ended the day in 41st shooting 146

The Lions tee off tomorrow at 8:30am to close out the final day of the Palouse Cougar Collegiate.
