LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After finishing first and second in each of the last two years, LMU swimming will look to claim its second-ever Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championship starting on Wednesday in Long Beach, Calif. The four-day event will be contested in Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. UC San Diego edged LMU for the title last year by a count of 1,403-1,381.

The PCSC Championship consists of swimming and diving events, even though not all teams (including LMU) field a diving team. In addition, each swimmer is limited to three events. The meet scores to 24th place with the fastest eight swimmers from the preliminaries making it into the Championship Final each night. The Consolation Final (places 9-16) and the `Bonus Consolation' (places 17-24) also return for the finals each evening. Each team is allowed 18 scoring athletes.
The Lions finished second at the PCSC Championships last year, but managed a point total nearly 150 points better than that of the year they won the title. After a stellar showing, Anne Scott was named PCSC Swimmer of the Year following the conclusion of the Championship, highlighting a list of 14 Lion swimmers on the All-Conference squad. Scott won the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, setting a new PCSC record in the 100 with a time of 50.96. She also served on LMU's PCSC record-setting 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
Among those selected to the All-Conference team were Rebecca Plume, Megan Sawelson, Alicia Witter, Scott, Mallorie Lim, Melanie Tansuwan, Trinity O'Neill, Carolyn Pasque, Tammy Choy, Jill Dahle, Terry Rinder, Yvonne Le, Christina Cannata and Olivia Plume. Justine Elgas, Lim and O'Neill also garnered All-Academic recognition. All-Academic awards were given to juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.50 or better.
