Lions Post 30th-Best GPA in Division I Swimming

Feb. 6, 2010

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The LMU swimming team recorded a 3.35 GPA during the fall semester, placing 30th out of 200 Division I schools that have women's swimming and diving programs, it was announced on collegecoaches.org, the official website of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The CSCAA, which annually provides both academic and athletic rankings for collegiate swimming, recognized those programs that accumulated a combined GPA of 3.0 or better.

Gardner-Webb University led all women's teams with a 3.52 GPA, followed by The University of Akron and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with 3.49 GPAs.

On the men's side, American University boasted a 3.47 GPA, followed by Yale University at 3.36, and then Harvard University with a combined 3.31.

The Lion swimming program is no stranger to academic recognition, having been recognized by the CSCAA in each of the last two spring semesters for its team GPA. In addition, LMU swimming recently posted its third consecutive semester as LMU's top program in terms of GPA. The Lions began the run with a 3.47 mark last fall before boasting a 3.42 last spring.
