Angelo Songco Honored by Ping!Baseball

June 5, 2009

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -

Junior Angelo Songco was named to the 2009 All-Ping!Baseball honorable mention team, it was announced on Friday.  The native of Granada Hills, Calif. was the only Lion selected by Ping!Baseball, an online publication that has covered the entire Division I baseball community for the last three years.   Earlier this summer, Songco was the only player from the West Coast Conference named to the semifinalist list for the 2009 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award.

Songco concluded another stellar year for the Lions in 2009.  He finished the campaign as the team-leader in nine offensive categories.  His .360 batting average, .678 slugging percentage, .481 on base percentage, 63 RBI, 15 home runs, 77 hits, 65 runs scored, 41 walks and 145 total bases all placed him tops on the team, while his three triples, 11 hit-by-pitches and five stolen bases ranked second overall.  His walk and runs totals, along with his on base percentage, placed him first in the West Coast Conference, while his home runs, slugging percentage, total bases and RBI all ranked second.  Placing first on the team in multiple-hit games with 23, he amassed four hits on two occasions (March 3 at UC Irvine and April 14 at UC Riverside).  With 15 home runs this season, he has collected 34 in his career, claiming sole possession of seventh in the All-Time LMU Record Books, one behind the sixth spot on the list.  The 15 homers placed tied for eighth in the Single-Season Record Book, while his 377 career total bases place him ninth all-time.  He is also eighth on the All-Time doubles list with 56.

Songco, who is expected to be selected in this year’s amateur draft, and the rest of the draft-eligible Lion players will await their fates on June 9.  To see Songco’s draft preview page, please visit the following link: Songco on MLB.com
