Final Stats

Los Angeles, Calif - Loyola Marymount Women's Tennis hosted No. 34 San Diego State this afternoon at LMU Tennis Center. LMU led in the beginning of the match but couldn't sustain the momentum and fell in the end to the Aztecs 4-3.

For the third match in a row, LMU captured the doubles point. The Lions won two of the three matches. Jane Pringle and Bliss Nixon won the No. 1 double position. Down 5-0 against Julia Trunk and Miliana Yusupov, Pringle and Nixon made a comeback and captured the win 8-5. Tina Razloznik and Shauna Morgan claimed LMU's other doubles victory. Leading the whole match, Razloznik and Morgan defeated Kathyrn Kitts and Esther Cadua 8-3.

Jasmin Heckel and Elisaveta Piroknova almost captured the sweep in the No. 2 spot. Heckel and Pironkova fought hard but couldn't pull of the win against the Ellison sisters and fell 8-5.

Razloznik continued the winning into the singles round. Razloznik won LMU's first singles match. In the No. 1 position Razloznik defeated SDSU's Trunk 6-2, 6-0. The streak would stop there for LMU as the Lions lost the next four matches including a heartbreaking loss for Jasmin Heckel. Heckel came close to capturing the win and her third singles victory in as many matches against the Aztecs' Emma Cioffi. Heckel picked up the first set 6-4 but couldn't come back in the final two sets and fell 0-6, 4-6.

Freshman Elisaveta Pironkova won her sixth singles match of the year. In the longest match of the day, Pironkova captured the Lions' other point in a two set thriller. Pironkova defeated SDSU's Roxanne Ellison, 6-4, 6-4.

"It's another sign of our steady improvement." Head Coach Jamie Sanchez said. "We're not there yet. We are at stage 2 of where we need to be. The important thing is we are continuing to improve."

LMU Women's Tennis (2-7, 0-2 WCC) will have a series of home matches these next couple weeks. The Lions will first face Memphis next Saturday at LMU Tennis Center. Match time is set for 10:00 a.m.
