LOS ANGELES, Calif. - LMU swimming will travel to Clovis, Calif. to take part in the PCSC Relays and PCSC Pentathlon this weekend in its first competitive events of the season. Friday will be a relay competition amongst PCSC schools that will field teams in 12 different relay events. The following day, swimmers throughout the PCSC will compete in a swimming pentathlon, choosing from one of three five-event series of races.
LMU last hit the water on September 26, splitting into two sets of 11 current Lion swimmers to square-off against a group of alumnae for the annual Alumnae Meet. In that meet, the alumnae finished with 40 points, followed by the navy squad with 38 and crimson with 29. The day featured six events, as the alumnae claimed the top spot in three. The former Lions did have a bit of an advantage, as they swam traditional 200 relays with four swimmers, while the current teams could only swim three players, with the fourth forced to race a full 100.
At last year's PCSC Relays, LMU finished second only to Pepperdine, as the Lions trailed the Waves by 48 points at the conclusion of the events, including two diving events in which LMU does not field a team. The same story emerged at the Pentathlon, as the Lions finished second with 546.5 points behind Pepperdine at 704 total points. Once again it was the diving events that gave the Waves a leg up on the Lions.
After this weekend's competition, LMU will return to the water on October 24 at the Malibu Invitational hosted by Pepperdine.
