LOS ANGELES, Calif. - San Jose State won the first match of the Four Points Sheraton LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic three sets to one over UC-Irvine. Irvine won the first set 25-23, but then dropped the next three to the Spartans.

Kelly Crow led San Jose State to the victory with 15 kills in 38 attacks for a .342 hitting percentage. Emily Burke led the team in hitting percentage with six kills in nine attempts (.667) while also recording 36 assists.

For the Anteaters, Taryn Robertson had 45 assists and Kari Pestolesi led them in kills with 18. UC-Irvine looked on its way to tying up the match 2-2 when it led the fourth set 17-8. The game changed, though, after San Jose State called a timeout and came all the way back, taking the lead at 22-21. The Spartans went onto win the set 25-23 to give them the match win.
