Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lions Sweep Pacific to End Season with Back-to-Back Wins

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's volleyball ended the season on a high note, earning a final day sweep of Pacific, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-20). The Lions won their final two games of the season this week after defeating Saint Mary's at home on Wednesday. Saturday's game started with a special recognition of the four members of LMU's senior class, Sophia Keene, Cecily Bramschreiber, Sophie Stephenson, and Maddie Boerstra.

The first set stayed close through the first 20-plus points, as neither team was able to hold a lead larger than two points. The Lions used a 4-0 run that started on back-to-back Maddie Boerstra kills and ended with a kill by Mariana Simao to push LMU ahead 15-10 at the media timeout. Pacific climbed back into the match and pulled within one at 19-18. The Lions closed out the set with six of the final seven points including back-to-back service aces to go ahead 1-0 in the match.

The Lions took a quick 4-1 lead in the second set. After Pacific pulled within one, LMU used a 4-0 run capped by Camille Pomeroy's block to push ahead 11-6. The lead grew to 14-8 on a block by Boerstra. Simao's kill at 16-12 started a string of six unanswered points and a larger 9-1 run to bring the home team to set point. After the Tigers fended off three set points, a serve into the net clinched the game and pushed LMU to a 25-16 win.

The third set featured tied scores at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, and 5-5, until the Lions scored four of the next five points to lead 9-6 on a block by the pair of Pomeroy and Nicole Schuetz. Pacific took a 15-12 lead before the Lions tied it at 15-all with the next three points, the final two of which were from two of Kayla Lopez's match-high four aces. The Tigers led 17-15 after scoring the next two, before the Lions closed the match on a 10-3 run to close it out, 25-20.

Boerstra led all players with 14 kills and 16 points. Delfina Schuh finished with a match-high 28 assists. Bramschreiber was the only player with double-digit digs at 14. Simao was the hit percentage leader at .444. Both Pomeroy and Scheutz recorded 4.0 blocks apiece.

The Lions finished the season with a record of 5-13 in conference to pass San Francisco and finish ninth in the West Coast Conference.
