LMU head softball coach Gary Ferrin was honored Wednesday for his 500th career victory as he threw out the first pitch at the Lions' baseball game against #12 UC Irvine at 3 p.m. Several of his players and LMU Director of Athletics Bill Husak were on hand to present Ferrin with a plaque commemorating his milestone victory, which he achieved May 3 with a 6-1 win at Saint Mary's.

Ferrin recently completed his 14th season at LMU, where he has compiled a record of 502-358-1. After taking over a program that had won no more than 12 games in any season prior to his arrival, the Lions have registered no fewer than 26 in any of his 14 years at the helm. This season, the Lions went 38-18 overall, posting their 10th consecutive winning season and reaching 35 or more wins for the eighth time in Ferrin's tenure. He led the Lions to Pacific Coast Softball Conference championships in 2003, 2005, and 2007 and NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2005 and 2007. A three-time PCSC Coach of the Year and the 2001 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Ferrin became the third PCSC coach to reach 500 career victories.

On hand for the ceremony were current LMU softball players Megan Ackerman, Melissa Dykema, Christine Foley, Kirsten Slouber, and Chelsie Tysdal, along with former player Margo Pineda. The players also presented Ferrin with an enlarged team photo marking his historic victory.
