Los Angeles, CA - The 11th-ranked Loyola Marymount women's water polo team defeated No. 20 Bucknell 9-6 at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions improve to 8-8 on the season while Bucknell falls to 14-3.
The Bison jumped out to an early 3-2 lead when Aubrey Rowe scored with 16 seconds remaining in the first period. The lead would extend to 4-2 after Whittney Allen scored the first goal of the second quarter.
LMU, however, would score the next five goals, four to close the second half, to go up 7-4. Mary Ann Campos made it 4-3 with 6:27 to play in the second and then Carrie Kosnik tied the score at 4-4. The Lions would take the lead for good when Diana Romero scored with 2:49 to play in the half. Nicole Hughes made the score 6-4 with 2:24 to play.
Campos would then finish the 5-0 run with her second goal of the game at the 5:40 mark of the third quarter. The teams would trade goals the remainder of the game. In addition to Campos, Hughes had a pair of goals.
The Lions continue their homestand when they host Indiana on Friday at 3 p.m.
