LMU senior pitcher Tiffany Pagano has been named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Pitcher of the Week for February 11-17, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is Pagano's 11th career Pitcher of the Week award, tying the conference record set by Jamie Forman-Lau of Santa Clara (2003-04).
Over the weekend, Pagano tossed three complete games, going 2-1 and picking up both of LMU's wins at the TEN Construction Tournament in Riverside, CA. After dropping Friday's opener to Creighton, she bounced back with a complete-game four-hitter against Northern Colorado in which she struck out nine and walked none to earn the 50th victory of her career. She also struck out nine without issuing any walks in her shutout of UC Riverside Sunday, this time conceding just two hits to improve to 3-1 on the season. Her strikeout-walk ratio for the week was 21-2 in 19 innings.
With her win over Northern Colorado on Monday, Pagano is now 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA on the season. She leads the Lions in ERA, innings pitched (47.1), complete games (five), strikeouts (58), and opponent batting average (.177).
This is Pagano's first Pitcher of the Week award this season after she won it five times last year, twice as a sophomore, and three times as a freshman. She is the second Lion to be named conference Pitcher of the Week this season, following sophomore Melissa Dykema's honor for February 4-10.
LMU's Wednesday game against #11 UCLA was rained out. The Lions (8-3) return to action this weekend at the USD Tournament, facing Marshall and Colorado State on Saturday and Nevada and UC Riverside on Sunday.
