MALIBU, Calif. - Junior Anne Scott won three freestyle events on Saturday at the Malibu Invitational in Malibu, Calif. Scott took first place in the 50 (23.92), 100 (52.13) and 200 freestyle (1:54.86) races. The three first-place finishes were the only three on the afternoon for the Lions.

LMU started the sprint relays with the 50 butterfly, where freshman Olivia Plume took fourth in a time of 26.81 to lead a pack of three Lions in the top-10 of the race. She was followed shortly by teammates Mallorie Lim (26.81) and Yvonne Le (27.03) in fifth and seventh places, respectively. Pepperdine's Rachel Cote won the race with a time of 26.57 as the Waves placed three swimmers in the top-10. Alicia Witter was the only LMU swimmer in the top-10 of the 50 backstroke, claiming sixth overall in 28.76. For the second consecutive race, Cote won the sprint in 27.45.

Pepperdine once again took the top spot in the next race, the 50 breaststroke. Dani Kimmel and Kayleen Hicks took first and second in 29.87 and 30.14, in that order. The Lions claimed the eighth spot overall, as Scott finished in that place with a time of 32.30.

Scott returned to the water in strong fashion, winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.92. After Kimmel and Cote took second and third for Pepperdine, O. Plume (24.83) and Carolyn Pasque (24.96) pushed the number of Lions in the top-10 to three, finishing in eighth and ninth overall.

Trinity O'Neill was the first Lion to finish in the top-10 of the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:00.18 to claim seventh. Lim took 10th just a short time later after turning in a time of 1:00.30. Cal Poly won first and third in the race as Gloria Benefield (58.60) and Katie Webster (59.35) earned those positions.

Pepperdine's Cote was back at it again in the 100 backstroke, taking the top spot in 57.09. Le finished seventh for the Lions, touching in 1:01.13. Cal Poly put four swimmers in the top-10, winning third, fourth, sixth and ninth.

LMU was led by Tammy Choy in the 100 breaststroke, as she finished 14th overall in 1:11.60. Hicks and Kimmel claimed first and second for Pepperdine, as the Waves also won ninth in the race. Hicks finished first in 1:05.80.

Scott showed her strength in freestyle events once again as she entered the water for the 100 freestyle, winning the event with a time of 52.13 to edge Cal Poly's Amy Morales at 52.97. Witter and Pasque followed just a few places later in sixth and seventh for the Lions, turning in times of 54.33 and 54.58, respectively.

Pepperdine placed well in the individual medley relay, finishing in second, fourth, sixth and seventh. The Lions placed one swimmer in the top-10, as Choy finished the medley in 2:13.06 to narrowly defeat Pepperdine's Franny Cyphers for the last position in the top-five. T. O'Neill also took part in the race, placing 17th overall in 2:17.37.

The Waves also won the 300 freestyle relay, touching the wall in 2:27.31, as LMU finished second in 2:28.75. Separate teams of Lions finished fifth overall in 2:36.29, seventh in 2:38.91 and 13th in 2:43.53.

Jill Dahle was the first Lion to enter the water in the distance portion of the meet, claiming fifth overall in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.09. LMU also won ninth and 10th in the race when T. O'Neill (2:13.55) and Katie Carmody (2:13.81) finished in those positions, respectively. Cal Poly won first and second in the race, as Gloria Benefield and Lacey Buck finished in 2:06.60 and 2:06.87.

As she did in the 100 backstroke, Le represented LMU as the lone Lion in the top-10 of the 200 backstroke. She touched the wall in 2:10.35 to claim fourth overall behind Benefield in first (2:08.01), Nicole Shipman in second (2:08.53) and Melody White in third (2:09.35).

Scott once again showed dominance in a freestyle event, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:54.86. Cal Poly took second and fifth, while Pepperdine claimed third overall. Witter and Dahle extended the number of Lions in the top-10 to three as they claimed sixth (1:58.41) and 10th (1:58.93), in that order.

The Lions claimed fourth, sixth and seventh in the 400 individual medley. Le led the threesome in a time of 4:40.26, followed by Choy at 4:43.28 and T. O'Neill at 4:43.30. Cal Poly's Karin Schleicher won the race in 4:33.70.

Dahle, Rebecca Plume and Terry Rinder finished fifth through seventh overall in the 500 freestyle, turning in times of 5:15.49, 5:17.72 and 5:19.33, respectively. Lacey Buck from Cal Poly won the event with a mark of 5:00.18.

LMU returns to the water on Saturday, November 1 when it travels to Bakersfield, Calif. to take on Cal State Bakersfield, Pacific and Fresno Pacific at 12 p.m.
