Berkeley, CA (Sept. 15) - Playing in their second tournament of the season, the Loyola Marymount men's water polo team continued their early season trend of tournament splits, opening the 2007 NorCal Open with a 10-4 setback to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and then a 13-5 win over No. 17 Air Force on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.

Freshman goalie Andy Stevens led the Lions by making 11 saves in the win over the Falcons and 20 on the day as the Lions improve to 3-5 on the year and snap a two-game skid, both coming to the top-three teams in the nation (USC and UCLA).

In the opener, the Lions fell down 5-2 at the break and could not come back as the Gauchos turned a 6-3 lead after three periods to a six-goal win with a four-goal fourth frame. The Lions were led by junior Mark Milovic with three goals and Tibor Forai with his team-leading ninth goal.

Forai, a first-year freshman, brought his season total to 13 with a four-goal outburst in the Lions second win over Air Force on the season.

The Lions jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one and took a 7-3 lead at the break. LMU then broke it open with four goals in the third to take a 11-5 lead after three. Stevens then shutout Air Force in the fourth for the final 13-5 win.

Julien Lormant and Ryan Fair each had two goals, which Rory Kelly, Tim Heafner, Zach Mix, Derek Milligan and Brian Benedetti added a goal each.

The Lions will take on another Western Water Polo Association rival in the winner of Santa Clara and No. 8 UC Davis (who play at 4 p.m. Saturday) at 12 noon on Sunday at the Bill Brown Aquatics Center on the campus of Miramonte High School.
